MMA Action Figures To Reach UK Shores
Posted by Jason Hearne

Back in July 2007 you may remember we set Tito off thinking about releasing the long awaited Huntington Beach Bad Boy action figures.

In an interview with The Fight Site, Tito said "Yeah, that would be awesome.  I’d love to have some product like that happen.  In the future I think we could go forward and make the Team Punishment guys; a Tito Ortiz doll and perhaps a Kendall Grove doll or something like that.  It’ll be cool and we’ll see what happens in the future."

 Tito Ortiz

Well fight fans the future is now and they are here at last and due for release in the UK, via www.forbiddenplanet.co.uk, on May 30th for £19.99 each!  The named "World Of MMA" figures have now completed Series 1 which features fan favourites Tito Ortiz, Randy Couture, Quinton Jackson and Matt Hughes.

Brad Imes to Replace Injured Branden Lee Hinkle on IFL Mohegan Sun Card
Posted by IFL Press Release
NEW YORK, May 9, 2008 – Mixed Martial Arts veteran Brad Imes (Sacramento, Calif.) will challenge Roy Nelson (Las Vegas) for the heavyweight championship as part of the nine-bout card as the International Fight League (OTC.BB: IFLI) returns to the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., on Friday, May 16. Imes replaces Branden Lee Hinkle (Weirton, W. Va.), who was injured in training.

A training injury to Fabricio Camoes of Brazil also necessitated a change in a non-championship lightweight bout. Frank Latina (Middletown, Conn.) will battle John Franchi (Cortland, N.Y.). Jim Miller (Sparta, N.J.), originally slated to face Camoes, withdrew from the bout following the injury to Camoes.

Imes, known as “The Hillbilly Heartthrob,” trains with Miletich Fighting Systems in Iowa. He He has competed in several MMA organizations, and was notably a finalist in the second season of The Ultimate Fighter television series. Imes is 11-4 in his MMA career and will be making his IFL debut. May 16 will also mark the first IFL bouts for Latina (4-1 overall) and Franchi (3-0).

Bisping To Face Day Of Doom
Posted by Rob Curry

Following Chris Leben's withdraw from his Middleweight bout against Michael Bisping at UFC 85: Bedlam, a replacement has been found, as we all expected, in the form of Canadian fighter Jason "Dooms" Day.

Day (17-5-0) steps into the Octagon following 5 straight wins, the most recent at UFC 83: Serra Vs. St Pierre 2, where he defeated Alan Belcher via TKO in the 1st .

The announcement was made on UFC.com:

"Obviously I was looking forward to the Leben fight but I guess it wasn't to be,” said Bisping. "You have to respect Jason Day for stepping in on even shorter notice than myself. I am looking forward to really putting on a great performance in London."

“I love this fight,” said Day. “Everybody’s been asking me who would I like to fight next, and I said Bisping, but who would have thought it would have come about so quickly. He’s a great fighter, an exciting fighter, tough as nails, and everybody wants that marquee fight where you get the guy that tests you and you slug it out for two or three rounds. I think he’s a pretty good test for me.”

Leben Out For "The Count"
Posted by Rob Curry
UFC Middleweight Chris Leben has been sentenced to 35 days in Jail by Clackamas County Circuit Court, Oregon. Leben gave him self up to officials last week after violating his probation terms, which he received following his arrest for a DUI (Driving under the influence) back in 2005.

Leben handed himself in after realising that he would require a visa to fly to England for his coming bout against Mike "The Count" Bisping at UFC 85: Bedlam on June 7th.

Court officials have advised that Leben will not be released before 9.00am on the 27th May, this just gave Leben under 2 weeks to prepare, and as a result it is rumoured that the UFC have cancelled the fight, although the bout still remains on the UFC site for now.

I believe that a replacement will be found for "The Count" to face, as a home turf fight for Bisping is a massive crowd draw for UFC fans in the U.K. so watch this space..

Final Bell Rings For Hardcore Championship Fighting
Posted by Rob Curry
HCF LogoReports are circulating that Canadian MMA promotion Hardcore Championship Fighting has handed the towel in and has closed for business. The organisation, that  has famous names such as Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Renato Sobral signed to its books had been recently seeing some success in the saturated MMA market over the past 12 months.

No official statement has been made as to the reason of HCF's closure although it is believed that promotion owners Keith Crawford and Dave Houshiar will both continue in the MMA game independently of each other.

In the current MMA climate it's hard to maintain any sort of momentum, and organisations which seem to be doing great just disappear overnight, its difficult to see how grassroots organisations and larger promotions can compete with the giant that is the UFC, but without these smaller promotions the sport doesn't have the opportunity to nurture fighters and develop the sport all round...... MCF R.I.P.

IFL, Throwdown Energy Drink Put "The Hex" on MMA with New Six-Sided Ring
Posted by IFL Press Release
IFL: The HexNEW YORK, May 8, 2008  The International Fight League (IFLI: OTC.BB) today announced it is in the process of developing a hexagon-shaped mixed Martial Arts ring, to be used in future IFL competitions. The new ring, created in conjunction with Throwdown Industries, the makers of Throwdown Energy Drink, will debut on Friday, August 15, at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J. The fight card for that event will be announced in June.

Dubbed "The Hex," the six-sided surface will measure 24 feet across (27’ 8 ½" end-to-end) and will be enclosed by five ropes. The use of The Hex  maintains the viewing advantage for fans in attendance as well as the television audience that the ring provides, while also allowing for the strategic benefits of a hexagonal surface.

"From a production and live event standpoint, the ring has proven to be the most fan and media friendly IFL: The Hexenvironment, as well as providing the safest possible environment for our athletes," said Jay Larkin, IFL CEO. "The Hex allows for the larger surface that is utilized in other MMA organizations while still retaining the advantages we have enjoyed with the ring."

A prototype of The Hex is currently being constructed and will be housed in Las Vegas. Throwdown, the leader in MMA Gyms and Training centers, has built training centers and personal gyms for the top MMA athletes in the world. Athletes and coaches will have the opportunity to work out in it prior to the August 15 New Jersey event.

"The Hex" is quite different from the other world-class MMA facilities we have built," said Throwdown President Mike McIntyre. "We are excited to be putting our expertise to work in developing what we feel will be an optimal surface for the sport as it continues to grow."

Tickets for the East Rutherford, N.J. event will be available at the IZOD Center Box Office (located at the Meadowlands), www.ticketmaster.com or by calling (201) 507-8900.

Fairclough Breaks Hand, Bout Withdrawn From Cage Rage 26
Posted by Rob Curry

Scot Fairclough has been forced to withdraw from his Light Heavy Weight bout against Roman Webber at this Saturdays Cage Rage 26: Extreme.

Fairclough sustained a broken hand during training and due to the timescale no opponent could be found to face Webber, and as a result the entire fight is off the card.

Speaking to MMA Weekly Webber stated:

“Dave called me earlier and let me know the news. It’s a shame that I am not fighting on the card now as I was really looking forward to it. I have trained really hard for this one, but these things happen, and have to me in the past, so I know what it’s like................I know they have been ringing round to find someone, but because it’s so late in the day, it hasn’t been successful. There are guys out there in the division, but aren’t necessarily peaked and ready to go.”

The card for Rage 26: Extreme currently stands as follows:

Ian Freeman Vs. Paul Cahoon (Light Heavyweight Championship)
Ch'e Mills Vs. Marios Zaromskis
Rodney Faverus Vs. James Zikic
Ross Mason Vs. Ross Pointon
Mark Epstein Vs. Matt Ewin (Middleweight Championship)
Henrique Nogueira Vs. Marc Goddard
Paul Reed Vs. Brad Pickett
Kev Sims Vs. Popek Rak
Chris Rice Vs.  Edegelson Lue
Harvey Harra Vs. Gary Kelly

We will be covering Cage Rage 26: Extreme as it happens from Birmingham NEC on May 10th, so keep it locked to The Fight Site for all the results.

Russow Eyes Biggest Test In Debut Of Adrenaline MMA
Posted by Adrenaline MMA Press Release
Adrenaline MMA: Monson Vs. RussowHOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. -- As a Chicago policeman, Mike Russow has become accustomed to dangerous situations.

So, it is understandable when Russow only smiles and refers to fighting veteran Jeff Monson in a professional mixed Martial Arts bout as a "great opportunity."  Russow, 9-1 in his pro career, takes on Monson, 23-7, in the heavyweight main event of Adrenaline MMA on June 14 at the Sears Centre.

A total of 13 pro bouts are scheduled in the inaugural Adrenaline event. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and fights begin at 6 p.m.

"Monson is far more than just a veteran," said Adrenaline CEO Monte Cox. "He has fought in every major event in the world and competed for countless titles, including the UFC heavyweight title. He comes into the event having won 18 of his last 20 bouts and is looking to prove Russow is not yet ready for the big time.

"Russow, on the other hand, has been crushing opposition and has been tested twice in major events... losing to then No. 6 ranked Sergei Kharitonov in Pride, then crushing Roman Zentzov in Japan's Yarennoka event last New Years Eve. He's ready to show he should be considered among the world's best."

Beginners Guide To.... Training In Thailand Pt. 1
Posted by Marc Aplin: www.muaythaiboy.com

My name is Marc Aplin, at the age of 21 I moved to Thailand to train and eventually fight in the countries national sport of 'Muay Thai' or to many westerners 'Thai Boxing'.

Known as one of the most devastating sports in the world and trademarked by its lasting inuries and painful / exhausting training regime, the first question I am often asked is why I would do it. Why would you give up a near perfect life in the UK where I was surrounded by my family, working full time in a very well paid job and my own apartment?

I think it all comes down to 'ambition' and pursuing your dreams and what you love. Far too much in England we push things back "I'll do it one day" or "I couldn't do that, I don't have the time..." and every other excuse we can thing of not to do something. Life is for living and if something is possible, no matter how difficult, we should give it our best shot because we only get one chance...

Anyway, I don't want to go all Bruce Lee style philosophical on you, feel free to click 'read more' for a full story about how I ended up coming to Thailand, as well as my plans and aims whilst over here.
